Buying a scooter fork
A fork defines which wheel, headset, bar and what kind of compression system can be used. That's why it is important to choose a fork that fits your existing parts/future upgrade.
- Forks are always 28 mm in diameter, unless mentioned differently.
- 100 mm wheels fit all forks unless mentioned differently.
- 110 mm wheels only fit some forks, this is mentioned in product details for the specific fork.
You can divide forks into 3 different types:
- Aluminum 2-piece fork (Lightweight & cheap)
- Aluminum One piece fork (Light but strong / made for better durability)
- Chromo/steel fork. (Strong & cheap, but heavy)
These 3 types can be subdivided:
- Threaded
- Threadless (Note, if you are using this you also need a threadless headset)
- Prepared for either ICS, HIC or SCS (Or another unique system) (read more about compression here)
- Length (Some are longer than others, this can limit the possibilities when choosing a compression)
- Open top (It's possible to knock down a starnut from the top to use with HIC or SCS)
- Closed top (Not possible to knock down a starnut from the top, does not work with HIC or SCS. Use ICS.)
- Incl. TopCap (Use own shim or buy a new one that fits in length, to create compression, by adjusting the TopCap)
- Lightweight (Recommended for riders that know how to land tricks evenly on their deck & fork)
Hints:
- You can mount a bar without thread on a fork with thread.
- Using HIC your fork will become wider (ca.32 mm). In this case, you have to use an oversized bar with an inner diameter of 32 mm!
- Avoid landing on the front part of your scooter, so you don´t damage the headset, bar and fork.
- SkatePro recommends using the same brand clamp & fork, due to warranty issues.
- If you want to use a threaded fork with a bar with 32 mm inner diameter you will need to use a HIC shim or SCS compression, depending on the specific bar you want to use.
